‘Deshdroh’ Ignites the Spirit of Patriotism at National Theatre Festival 2026
New Delhi: The National Theatre Festival 2026, organised across the country by the Sangeet Natak Akademi under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to commemorate 150 years of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ and the birth anniversary of Mahakavi Kalidasa, is witnessing a series of significant theatrical presentations.
As part of the festival, Barahmasa Rangmandal, Delhi, presented an impactful stage adaptation of the celebrated story ‘Deshdroh’ by renowned Hindi litterateur Pandey Bechan Sharma ‘Ugra’ on July 15 at the Meghdoot III Auditorium of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
Steeped in patriotism, national consciousness and the spirit of devotion to the nation, the production deeply connected the audience with the ideals of the freedom struggle, sacrifice and dedication towards the country. Through powerful dialogues, compelling performances and an evocative theatrical language, the play conveyed the message that patriotism is not merely an emotion, but also a sense of responsibility, sacrifice and commitment towards the nation.
The stage adaptation of ‘Deshdroh’ was undertaken by senior theatre practitioner Mukesh Jha, while the production was directed by young theatre practitioner Nirbhay Kartavya. The powerful performances, impactful dialogues, stage design and emotional energy of the production kept the audience engaged throughout and created an atmosphere of patriotism and national consciousness in the auditorium.
The cast included Mukesh Jha, Manisha, Aman Gupta, Saket Upadhyay, Shivani Jha, Poonam Singh, Maya Nand Jha, Rohit Tripathi, Maninder Ram, Krish Puri, Mohit, Gaurav Verma, Tanuj, Soni Shekhar, Vidya, Rajesh Kumar Beni, Deepak Jaiswal, Sarthak Jha, Shivali Mishra and Paridhi Jha, all of whom received appreciation from the audience for their impressive performances.
The production was further enhanced by the music of Prasoon Narayan, lighting design by Divyang Srivastava, and makeup by Pushpa Kumari, whose contributions played an important role in the success of the presentation.
Following the performance, the audience applauded the production and encouraged the artists and the entire theatre group. Mr. Raju Das, Secretary of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, appreciated the performances of the artists and the overall production. Mrs. Sandhya Purecha, Chairperson of the Akademi, honoured the artists by presenting them with traditional angavastrams.
