The new campus in Gurugram, set to open in mid-2026, will be India’s first international campus to offer the award-winning VU Block Model®, where students study one subject at a time in four-week workshop-style classes.

New Delhi: Victoria University (VU) took a major step in its global expansion strategy today by laying the foundation stone for its Delhi-NCR campus in Gurugram, Haryana. Once operational, it will become India’s first international campus to deliver education entirely through the VU Block Model®, a modern learning approach designed to enhance student success and future readiness.

VU was among the first Australian universities to receive approval from the Government of India under the New National Education Policy (NEP) to establish a comprehensive campus in India.Victoria University Lays Foundation Stone for Its First Indian Campus in Delhi-NCR hummernews.in

Every year, more than 1.7 million students in India score above 80% in school, yet many are unable to access global education due to limited institutional capacity and the high cost of studying abroad. This initiative provides VU with an opportunity to make a significant contribution to India’s human resource development. By offering globally relevant programs, collaborating with local industries, and producing skilled graduates, VU aims to play a transformative role in India’s educational and economic progress.

The campus is expected to open by mid-2026, with undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Business, Information Technology, and Research. Inspired by VU’s modern City Tower Campus in Melbourne, which was purpose-built for the VU Block Model, the Indian campus seeks to bring high-quality Australian education closer to Indian students at an affordable cost, reducing the need for expensive overseas travel and accommodation.Victoria University Lays Foundation Stone for Its First Indian Campus in Delhi-NCR hummernews.in

The internationally acclaimed and award-winning VU Block Model® enables students to study only one subject at a time, in four-week blocks, through small, workshop-style classes. VU is the first Australian university to introduce this unique learning model and remains the largest institution globally to implement it at scale.

With a strong focus on equity and inclusion, the VU Block Model has already delivered outstanding academic outcomes in Australia, including high undergraduate and postgraduate pass rates of 94%, along with excellent results in student retention, progression, and success.

The model has proven especially powerful for first-generation university students and disadvantaged communities, earning international recognition for inclusive education. It is also being successfully implemented in Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

The traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, mango tree plantation, and foundation-laying ritual for the Delhi-NCR campus were attended by:

  • Hon. Julian Hill, Federal Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs

  • Hon. Steve Bracks, Chancellor of Victoria University

  • Prof. Adam Shoemaker, Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University

  • Senior government officials from India and Australia

Quote – Hon. Julian Hill

“Victoria University is a leader in teaching, learning, and the student experience, including its unique VU Block Model. The new campus in Gurugram will now connect Indian students with these innovations.”

Quote – Hon. Steve Bracks, Chancellor, Victoria University

“This campus is about opening doors to opportunity. Due to the high cost of overseas education and limited institutional access, many Indian students miss out on global education. VU’s education and research offerings will help change that. Bringing the VU Block Model to India offers students a proven pathway to success—one that is inclusive, industry-connected, and designed for the future.”
