Connecting with Our Roots: Successful Conclusion of the Historic “Bharat Bodh” Academic Conclave at Delhi University

Taking a landmark step towards the intellectual and civilizational decolonization of Indian higher education, the Centre for Professional Development in Higher Education (CPDHE), UGC-MMTTC, Delhi University, has successfully concluded an unprecedented hybrid Refresher Course.
Held from July 6, 2026, to July 18, 2026, this historic initiative seamlessly integrated two fundamental academic themes: “Indian Knowledge Tradition: Bharat Bodh” and “Indian Thought and Thinkers.” Organized under the visionary leadership of Prof. Geeta Singh, Director of CPDHE, the primary objective of this nationwide academic conclave was to dismantle the colonial academic framework and firmly re-establish *Sanatan* civilizational knowledge at the core of the Indian university curriculum.
Why is “Bharat Bodh” a national imperative? For decades, the Indian academic establishment remained under the subtle yet pervasive influence of Euro-centric methodologies. Reconnecting with one’s roots through courses like “Bharat Bodh” is not merely an academic exercise; it is a vital imperative for national security and development. As the nation advances towards the grand resolve of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), it is crucial to cultivate a generation of scholars, scientists, and policymakers who are deeply connected to their cultural identity. By integrating ancient Indian science, indigenous diplomacy, and Sanatan philosophy, this academic initiative empowers the nation to reclaim its intellectual sovereignty, foster enduring social harmony, and establish its immense ‘soft power’ globally as a Vishwa-Guru (World Teacher).
A central and highly strategic highlight of this conclave was the key deliberation held on the theme: “Connecting with Our Roots: Dharma, Spirituality, Culture, and Sanatan Dialogue.” This significant panel powerfully showcased the all-encompassing and integrative nature of Indian cultural nationalism. Under the able guidance of eminent social thinker Dr. Indresh Kumar and Dr. Atul Kothari, National Secretary of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, the session placed immense emphasis on the necessity of civilizational unity.
This vision of profound national integration and inter-faith harmony rooted in the Sanatan ethos was powerfully articulated by several distinguished figures, including Major General Javed Iqbal, VSM (Retd.), Indian Army; Dr. Khwaja Iftikhar Ahmed, Chairman and Founder, Inter-Faith Harmony Foundation of India; Prof. Farooq Ahmed Malik, Department of Political Science, Government Women’s College, Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir; and Dr. Khurshid Ahmed Mir, Head of the Department of Political Science, Amar Singh College, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. Their active participation underscored the fact that Jammu and Kashmir is now inextricably woven into the mainstream Indian civilizational narrative.

Furthermore, the conference adopted a proactive stance regarding the indigenization of national narratives and legal frameworks. Prominent figures such as Mr. Sayeed Ansari, Executive Editor and Anchor, Aaj Tak; Mr. Hitesh Shankar, Senior Journalist and Editor, Panchjanya; and Mr. Srihari Borikar, Organizing Secretary, Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad, trained academics in the crucial arts of narrative warfare and jurisprudence liberated from colonial mindsets.
Through this unique initiative, the University of Delhi reaffirms its steadfast commitment to shaping an academic vanguard that is thoroughly modern in its capabilities, yet deeply, proudly, and authentically Indian in its soul.
