Lawyers Detained Outside Supreme Court During Protest Against SIR and EVMs
New Delhi: Lawyers Detained During Protest in Delhi. On Saturday, October 10, lawyers gathered outside the Supreme Court around 1 p.m. to protest the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs). They also demanded the resignations of the Chief Election Commissioner, the Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister.
After addressing the gathering, the lawyers marched along Bhagwan Das Road. Police detained them and put them on a bus carrying around 50 lawyers. The group included S.S. Nehra, Balraj Malik, Bhanu Pratap Singh and Mahmood Pracha. The bus travelled via Nizamuddin Bridge and Anand Vihar to Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar, where the lawyers were held for about an hour. During the journey, they continued to raise slogans including “Inquilab Zindabad” and “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod.”
According to accounts from the scene, around 100–
150 other lawyers had already been brought to the sports complex. It was also reported that approximately 1,000 lawyers from various Delhi courts had been detained that day.
After 4 p.m., another bus reportedly carried people detained near the Supreme Court. Around the same time, a lathi-charge was reported outside the court. At about 6 p.m., people were reportedly being prevented from leaving Mandi House Metro station.
