Shri Manohar Lal Khattar Ji and Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal Conduct Surprise Inspection of Sarojini Nagar Housing Complexes

The Hon’ble Union Minister visited Bharti Nagar area to assess NDMC’s preparedness for tackling waterlogging issues
Hon’ble Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar Ji, along with NDMC Vice Chairperson Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, conducted a surprise inspection of the newly constructed government housing quarters at Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi in the precense of Shri Tariq Thomas, Secretary NDMC, Shri H.P.Singh, Chief Engineer Civil and other senior officials from the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC).
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Chahal reiterated NDMC’s commitment to the vision of Viksit Bharat, Viksit Delhi, Viksit NDMC. He said these residential redevelopment projects are part of the broader transformation plan envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, who laid the foundation stone of these housing complexes to provide modern, sustainable, and dignified accommodation to government employees.
Shri Khattar stated that the visit was aimed at addressing residents’ grievances and reviewing areas prone to waterlogging ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. He noted that minor issues in new constructions are quite natural, and the purpose of the inspection was to assess such concerns directly on-site. He assured that a joint meeting with relevant departments will be held within a week to ensure prompt resolution of the issues raised and to prevent any further inconvenience to the residents.
The inspection also included a survey of nearby vulnerable locations such as Sarojini Nagar Market, Lodhi Estate, and NBCC housing colonies. Shri Khattar directed the concerned departments to expedite and complete all pending drainage and sewage-related works before the onset of the monsoon to ensure smooth civic functioning and avoid flooding.
After inspecting the Sarojini Nagar Housing Complex, the Hon’ble Union Minister visited Bharti Nagar area to assess NDMC’s preparedness for tackling waterlogging issues ahead of the monsoon season. During the visit, the NDMC Secretary and Chief Engineer (Civil) briefed the Minister on the steps being taken by the Council, including drainage improvement works, installation of pumps, and regular maintenance activities to ensure smooth water discharge during heavy rains. They informed that a substantial number of sump pits have been developed across vulnerable areas, adequate pumping equipment has been installed, and RWA-based rainwater harvesting pits have also been constructed to enhance drainage efficiency in NDMC area.
Shri Chahal said apart from the above issues the Market Welfare Association requested for the Widening of Road near Sarojini Nagar area and NBCC Qtr. issues in connection with NDMC. He informed that the minister also give the instructions to review the NBCC related projects.
Shri Chahal said that the NDMC is actively working with NBCC and other agencies to ensure that all newly constructed housing complexes under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) scheme meet the highest standards of structural safety, hygiene, and functionality. Dedicated teams have been deployed to address issues related to plumbing, electrical fittings, sanitation, and structural snags reported by residents.
Shri Khattar remarked that regular inspections, timely interventions, and citizen-centric planning are crucial pillars in the effort to build a developed and inclusive India. He emphasized that NDMC’s ongoing infrastructure improvements in residential and market areas are important milestones in the larger vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
Shri Chahal concluded by stating that such inspections reflect our government’s broader commitment to good governance, responsive civic administration, and world-class urban development, ensuring that every part of the NDMC area is fully prepared to meet the challenges of a smart and sustainable future in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision.
