Thousands of Spectators
The Sahid Cup Football Tournament, which was held from 05 September to 21 September 2025, has finally come to an end. This tournament was organized by United Veterans Club, Kalimpong. Initially, it did not seem to be very popular, but as time passed, it has turned into the biggest tournament in the history of the Gorkha community. It has succeeded in earning its name not only in Kalimpong District but also in other States of India, Bhutan and Nepal. All the credit for this goes to United Veterans Club Kalimpong. On the day of the final, the fair ground, which was filled with more then Fifteen Thousand people, was packed. The enthusiasm of all the people knew no bounds. The people who participated in this final tournament were so excited that even if they did not have a place to sit, they wanted to stand up and watch. Such enthusiasm was there on 21 September at the Mela Ground Kalimpong.
Decorated Stage
The excitement was even better on the stage, in the pavilion, where the Chief Minister of Sikkim State, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, was present, while the head of the Gorkha Territory Association, Anit Thapa, and the MLA of Kalimpong, Ruden Sada, were present. This Sahid Cup football tournament was showing the love, close relationship and unity of language between Sikkim and Gorkha Community.
High level Exhibition Match The exhibition match between Kalimpong MLA 11 and Sikkim CM 11 aroused the excitement among the spectators. The Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Tamang himself was present in this match, while the MLA of Kalimpong, Ruden Sada, also played. This match was very cordial and friendly. Sikkim CM 11 won this match.
The Presence of Celebrity
The Sahid Cup Football Tournament was not just about the entertainment of the game, there were also various musical programs in which popular singers from Nepal SD Yogi and Reshma Pun Magar and Anmol Gurung from Kalimpong, Celebrity hero Anmol KC and Jassita Gurung were present. They entertained with songs and words.
Remembering the Martyrs
A meeting was held to remember those who died for language, caste and land. GTA Chief Anit Thapa, Kalimpong MLA Ruden Sada and Sikkim CM Shri Prem Singh Tamang were present along with the family members of the martyrs. The poignant background of the martyrs was narrated by artist Anmol Gurung.
Georgian Football Club Wins
The final match was very interesting. The final match was between U.K.F.C, Kurseong and Georgian Football Club, Kalimpong. The match was very entertaining. Both teams scored one goal each and a penalty was given at the end. Georgian Football Club, Kalimpong won on penalty. Georgian Football Club, Kalimpong has created history by winning the Shahid Cup football tournament organized by United Veterans Club, Kalimpong.
