Resolve AMU Crisis Through Dialogue – Irshad Ahmad

Irshad Ahmad, Advocate Supreme Court of India and Ex-President, AMU Old Boys’ Association-Delhi, has written a detailed letter to the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, expressing his grave concern over the ongoing campus unrest.
He especially pointed out the painful situation of students who are currently on fast, with their health showing signs of deterioration.
Irshad Ahmad appealed to the administration to act with compassion, start an open dialogue, and take immediate steps to resolve the issues amicably. He noted that while partial fee rollbacks and the acceptance of resignations from a few proctorial staff are positive signs, genuine grievances such as elections and student welfare still need urgent attention.

Irshad Ahmad addressed the protesting students directly, urging them not to take stern steps that may harm their health or future. He reminded them that AMU has always thrived on democratic traditions, peaceful debate, and constructive engagement, and appealed to them to remain patient while allowing dialogue to succeed.
“Strength lies not in confrontation but in dialogue. Let us protect the dignity of our students and preserve the great legacy of our alma mater,” Irshad Ahmad emphasized.

In closing, Irshad Ahmad once again urged the university administration to take the help of respected teachers and senior faculty members on campus to mediate with the students and resolve the matter immediately in the larger interest of peace and normalcy.
