New Delhi :

Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has initiated the construction of a 200-metre running track at Lodhi Garden in New Delhi. This initiative aims to provide a safe and well-organized space for jogging and running enthusiasts, thereby encouraging health and fitness among citizens and visitors, it is  informed by NDMC Vice Chairman Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal.

Shri Chahal informed that the construction work of the track has commenced and is expected to be completed by 10 July 2025. He said, “This track is being specifically designed for running and jogging to offer users a safe and comfortable experience. It will not only benefit local residents but also attract fitness enthusiasts, athletes, and sports lovers visiting Lodhi Garden.” Shri Chahal added that the proposed cycling track at Lodhi Garden is inspired by the jogging track developed at Siri Fort Sports Complex and will be located near Gate No. 5 of Lodhi Garden.

Providing further details, Shri Chahal said that the track will have a gravel surface and will be equipped with a sprinkler system to control dust and maintain surface quality. He stated, “A gravel surface provides a softer and safer running experience and demands less maintenance compared to synthetic tracks.”

Highlighting the broader vision behind the project, Shri Chahal said, “This is a pilot project. If successful, NDMC plans to develop similar tracks in other major parks across New Delhi. We have already developed a synthetic track at Nehru Park, but it requires higher maintenance. This new initiative promotes a cost-effective and low-maintenance alternative.”

Shri Chahal emphasized that the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a Vikisit Bharat @2047 places a strong emphasis on youth fitness. The Prime Minister has launched initiatives such as the Fit India Movement and Khelo India to raise awareness about sports and health across the country. He believes that a healthy, disciplined, and aware youth population will not only enhance national productivity but also foster qualities such as determination, teamwork, and a winning spirit—crucial for building a developed India.

Shri Chahal also highlighted that apart from the running track, NDMC has been consistently working to strengthen the health and fitness infrastructure in New Delhi, including the development of cycling tracks in major parks, open gyms, and a jogging track at Nehru Park. All these initiatives align with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of encouraging citizens to adopt a healthy lifestyle and make fitness a part of their daily routine.
