Muhurat dates Spark Travel Surge: Delhi Sees 44% Rise in June Bus Bookings hummernews.in

Delhi: Delhi has seen a strong rise in intercity bus bookings, with a 44% increase in June 2025 compared to June 2024 in seat reservations on redBus, the world’s largest online bus ticketing platform. This is remarkable as June is typically a slower travel period.
The spike in demand is primarily attributed to muhurat days (auspicious dates for weddings) most of which occurred between June 2-8. In contrast there were no muhurat in June 2024. This surge was accompanied by a sharp uptick in pilgrimage-led travel across the state.
Key intercity routes include:
● Delhi-Manali
● Delhi-Lucknow
● Delhi-Rishikesh
● Delhi-Dehradun
● Delhi-Haridwar
Top Boarding Points
Some of the most frequented boarding locations during the month were:
● ISBT Kashmiri Gate
● Dhaula Kuan
● Akshardham Metro Station
● Morigate
● Anand Vihar
Private Buses vs. RTC: 95% of total bookings were made on private bus operators While 5% of bookings were on RTC (state-run) buses
Bus Type:
● AC Buses: 97% of bookings are reserved for air-conditioned buses, indicating a significant demand for more comfortable travel options, especially when pre-booking in advance.

● Non-AC Buses: 3% of the bookings are being made for non-AC buses.

Traveller Demographics:
● 27% of the overall seats are booked by female travellers, with 64% of them being young adults (21–35 years).
● 73% of the overall seats are booked by male travellers, with 64% of them being young adults (21–35 years).
These trends indicate a clear shift in mobility behaviour across Delhi, influenced by cultural calendars and rising digital adoption in smaller towns. The increased participation from young adults and preference for longer, comfort-led journeys underscore a steady transformation in intercity travel. As seasonal drivers like muhurat and pilgrimage continue to shape demand, Delhi remains a key contributor to the evolving patterns of bus travel in India.
