Passengers on the Howrah–Kamakhya route can now enjoy authentic Bengali and Assamese cuisine curated by a leading luxury hospitality brand from North-East India

Mayfair Spring Valley Resort, Guwahati—one of the most prominent names in luxury hospitality in North-East India—has partnered with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) as the official caterer for India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. The train was ceremonially flagged off last Saturday by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
Operating on the Howrah–Kamakhya (Guwahati) route, this overnight journey marks a new chapter in long-distance rail travel in India.
Mayfair Spring Valley Resort is the first luxury hospitality brand to bring its signature dining experience onboard a Vande Bharat Sleeper service. Passengers will be served authentic Bengali and Assamese cuisine prepared using locally sourced ingredients. The curated menu features traditional delicacies such as Basanti Pulao, Cholar Dal, Moong Dal, Chanar Dalna, Dhokar Dalna, Assamese Joha Rice, Mati Mahor Dal, Masoor Dal, seasonal vegetable bhajis, and classic sweets including Sandesh, Coconut Barfi, and Rasgulla.

The onboard menu has been thoughtfully designed to strike a balance between familiarity and regional authenticity. It includes nutritious vegetarian meals suited for overnight travel, aligned with local culinary traditions. Seasonal vegetables, slow-cooked preparations, mild spices, and time-honoured desserts ensure that the food remains comforting, flavourful, and easy to digest during long-distance journeys.

The Howrah–Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper is India’s first long-distance overnight Vande Bharat train, covering a distance of nearly 1,000 km. It consists of 16 fully air-conditioned sleeper coaches, including First AC, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier, with a total passenger capacity of approximately 823 travelers.
Designed for speed and comfort, the train features ergonomic berths, modern amenities, automatic doors, advanced suspension systems, noise-reduction technology, and the KAVACH anti-collision safety system. With a maximum operational speed of 130 km/h, the train significantly reduces travel time while ensuring confirmed berths for all passengers. It strengthens connectivity between Eastern India and the North-East, positioning itself as a premium overnight rail travel option.
