New delhi : Railways offers a well-established system for opting for meals on premium trains, which can be selected during the booking of e-tickets. However, it was recognized that there was a need for a similar system to provide hygienic and convenient meal booking options on Mail and Express trains, where passengers often face issues with overcharging, non-issuance of bill and food items sold by unauthorized vendors.
To address these challenges, IRCTC, in consultation with the Railways, has launched the E-Pantry Service an innovative, digitally enabled solution for pre-booked meal supply on mail express trains running with pantry cars. E-Pantry is an online meal booking system integrated into the IRCTC ticket booking system. It allows passengers with Confirmed, RAC, or Partially Confirmed tickets to pre-order hygienic, standard meals and rail Neer that will be supplied by Pantry Car staff to their seats.The service ensures that passengers enjoy a more organized, safe, and digital catering experience, bringing peace of mind, hygienic meals, and a better overall travel experience.How the E-Pantry Service Works:
Booking: Passengers can select the E-Pantry meal option during the booking process on the IRCTC website(www.irctc.co.in), either from theconfirmation page or the “Booked Ticket History” section. Confirmation: Afterbooking, passengers receive a confirmation message and a Meal Verification Code (MVC) via SMS or email.Meal Delivery: On the day of travel, passengers share the MVC with the vendor,who will then deliver the pre-ordered meal directly to their seat.Key Features of the E-Pantry Service:Digital Meal Booking: Passengers can easily pre-book a Standard Meal or Rail Neer online,
