Indian Institute of Packaging to Celebrate 59th Foundation Day with High-Impact Event on ‘Packaging for Prosperity’

The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, is set to celebrate its 59th Foundation Day here on 14th May 2025 with a landmark event titled ‘Packaging for Prosperity: Innovation, Sustainability & Global Reach’. This high-impact platform is designed to spotlight the future of packaging in India, with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
The event will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Shri Jitin Prasada, who will be the chief guest. The day-long aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas and best practices, encourage technological innovation and creativity in packaging, strengthen international collaborations and partnerships, and provide opportunities for skill enhancement and knowledge sharing. A key focus will also be on promoting sustainability and advancing the adoption of eco-friendly packaging solutions across industries.
“On the 59th Foundation Day of Indian Institute of Packaging, we celebrate nearly six decades of innovation, excellence, and leadership in the packaging industry. As we reflect on our journey, we remain committed to advancing the future of packaging through research, training, and global collaboration. The celebration is aligned with India’s visionary Amrit Kaal. We are taking bold steps toward shaping a future of innovation and excellence. Our continuous efforts aim to empower industries, enhance sustainability, and contribute to India’s growth on the world stage. Here’s to a future that is not only driven by progress but also guided by our legacy of expertise and dedication,” said Shri RK Mishra, Director, IIP.
Over 200 key stakeholders from across the packaging ecosystem, including industry leaders from FMCG, pharma, food processing, and e-commerce sectors, as well as packaging technologists, researchers, and representatives from government bodies such as Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority(APEDA) are expected to the attend the event. It will also engage startups, MSMEs, academic institutions, and students from leading packaging and design institutes, creating a dynamic platform for cross-sector collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Three panel discussions on key themes shaping the future of packaging in India—Sustainable Packaging for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Global Standards & Export Packaging and Packaging Innovation for MSMEs—will be held to showcase recent innovations and chart the way forward for the packaging industry. The event will feature Exhibition Zones showcasing cutting-edge biodegradable packaging solutions, emerging technologies, and award-winning designs. A special showcase will highlight innovations that have received the prestigious India Star and Asia Star awards across categories such as FMCG, pharma, food, e-commerce, and sustainability. Additionally, the National Packaging Innovation Challenge will be launched, inviting creative and scalable packaging ideas from students and startups to foster the next generation of innovators.
It will also feature a live Packathon, a dynamic innovation contest where participants will tackle real-world, industry-specific packaging challenges in real time. In addition, IIP will unveil several forward-looking R&D initiatives, including the launch of a Biodegradable Packaging Lab, an AI Lab and a Life Cycle Analysis Lab aimed at driving research, sustainability, and technological advancement in the packaging sector
The event aligns with India’s Amrit Kaal vision including the proposal for a National Packaging Innovation & Research Park, the launch of global certification programs, and the expansion of comprehensive training and skilling programs. These efforts are further complemented by the development of export-oriented packaging strategies, all of which aim to enhance India’s position as a global leader in packaging innovation, foster sustainability, and contribute significantly to the nation’s economic growth and self-reliance.
