New Delhi : The Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) recently concluded its 9th annual commemoration of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) at the Press Club of India. The event brought together HWPL officials, key speakers, and notable figures, including Professor Lalit Aggarwal, Vice President of the Management Education and Research Institute (MERI), Prof. (Dr.) Deepshikha Kalra, Dean of MERI, and Parvaiz Ahmad Najar, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Counseling (JKIC), to highlight the importance of peace and the collective efforts required to achieve it.

The DPCW, proclaimed on March 14, 2016, aims to foster sustainable peace by encouraging institutional reforms, enhancing communication, and building trust between communities.

A significant development at the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HWPL and the Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Counseling. This partnership aims to advance peace efforts in Jammu and Kashmir through counseling services, peace education, and community development programs. The collaboration is expected to contribute to promoting peace and stability in the region.

Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of community involvement in the peace process and stressed the need for collective efforts to create a harmonious world. They discussed the framework provided by the DPCW’s 10 articles and 38 clauses, which focus on conflict prevention, mutual understanding, and respect among nations.

This year’s commemoration marked an important milestone in HWPL’s global peace initiatives. The partnership with the Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Counseling is anticipated to bring about positive change in the region, helping to create a more peaceful future for Jammu and Kashmir.

Prof. (Dr.) Deepshikha Kalra also shared insights about a new peace education course co-developed by MERI and HWPL. The course includes 40 lecture videos and corresponding texts, addressing case studies from various global conflicts, including those in Africa, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, and the Koreas.

Prof. Kalra highlighted the course’s role in helping individuals gain a deeper understanding of peace processes. She commended the efforts of both the HWPL and MERI teams, particularly Prof. Dr. Rakesh Khurana from MERI and Ms. Victoria Mutum, General Director of the Peace Education Department at HWPL India, for their contributions. The course is currently being field-tested by Prof. Kalra.

The course covers essential topics such as the meaning and scope of Peace Economics, the economics of peaceful transitions, a historical overview of Peace Economics, poverty reduction and peacebuilding, conflict prevention and resolution, and the measurement of peace indicators. Prof. Kalra expressed her hope that this course would enhance understanding of peace processes and contribute to global peace efforts.
