Mumbai : Indians produced a strong comeback in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, registering a commanding 50-run victory over Delhi Capitals in Saturday’s double-header at the DY Patil Stadium. After a disappointing opening loss, MI were led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, who delivered match-winning performances with the bat.

Put in to bat first by Delhi’s new captain Jemimah Rodrigues, Mumbai endured early setbacks as Amelia Kerr was dismissed for a golden duck, followed soon after by G Kamilini. Delhi wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee impressed with sharp glovework, including a stunning one-handed catch that handed debutant Nandini Sharma her maiden WPL wicket.

Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the innings with fluent strokeplay, racing to 32 off just 20 balls. She then stitched a crucial 66-run partnership with Harmanpreet Kaur for the fourth wicket, shifting momentum firmly in Mumbai’s favour. Harmanpreet took charge against the pacers, while Sciver-Brunt reached her half-century off 32 deliveries.

The Mumbai skipper accelerated further, smashing boundaries at will and raising her fifty in just 34 balls. After Sciver-Brunt’s dismissal, Harmanpreet found able support from Nicola Carey, who struck a brisk 21 off 12 balls. Harmanpreet capped off the innings in style, hammering four consecutive boundaries in the final over to remain unbeaten on 74, propelling Mumbai to a formidable 195 for 4.

Delhi Capitals’ chase faltered from the start as Shafali Verma struggled to find rhythm, while Lizelle Lee could manage only 10 on her WPL debut. Nicola Carey rocked the Capitals early, removing both Verma and Laura Wolvaardt in the same over. Delhi’s woes deepened inside the PowerPlay when skipper Jemimah Rodrigues was dismissed following another exceptional one-handed catch by Kamilini.

Chinelle Henry showed some resistance with a fighting half-century, adding brief partnerships with Niki Prasad, Sneh Rana and Minnu Mani. However, the mounting required run-rate proved too steep. Amelia Kerr turned the screws late in the innings, picking up key wickets to dismantle Delhi’s lower order.

Kerr finished as the standout bowler with figures of 3 for 24, while Carey also claimed three wickets despite conceding a few runs. Delhi Capitals were eventually bowled out for 145 in the 19th over, handing Mumbai Indians a comprehensive 50-run victory.
