Hashtags, titles and content play a big role in making videos viral: Namrata Singh -

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Management Education and Research Institute (MERI), Janakpuri, organized a dynamic workshop on Monday titled ‘How to Become an Influencer @ MERI’.

Addressing the session as keynote speaker, senior journalist from Sansad TV, Ms. Namrata Singh, shared valuable insights on the evolving role of social media in modern journalism. She emphasized that platforms like YouTube and Instagram have redefined the way news and content are consumed. “In today’s digital age, content is king—but so is presentation. Titles, hashtags, and the narrative style are crucial in making content go viral,” she said.

Ms. Singh advised students to maintain consistency, practice patience, and adhere to fact-checking standards while posting online. She underlined that the key to gaining traction on digital platforms lies in crafting catchy, relevant titles that spark curiosity among viewers.

She also explained how even small elements, such as the choice of thumbnails, trending hashtags, and timing of uploads, can impact a video’s reach. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, during which students asked thoughtful questions about the influencer ecosystem and the ethical responsibilities of digital content creators.

The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Lalit Aggarwal, Vice President of the MERI Group of Institutions. In his opening remarks, Dr. S.K. Pandey, Head of the Department, highlighted the rising influence of digital creators in shaping public discourse.

Prof. Deepshikha Kalra, Dean of MERI College, delivered the vote of thanks. College Advisor Prof. Rakesh Khurana also addressed the gathering, and Prof. Sadanand Pandey, along with other faculty members, graced the occasion. The session was smoothly compered by Pritha Arora and Neha Saini, students of BA (JAMC).
