Pankaj Nath, Assam :  A four-member team led by Dr. Poonam Raman, Joint Director of the Women and Child Development Department of the Haryana Government, visited Assam’s Kamrup district on Monday. The objective of the visit was to study the outstanding measures and best practices adopted in Kamrup district for the prevention of child marriage. During the visit, the team attended a meeting held at the conference hall of the Integrated Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Kamrup district. he meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Sujata Gogoi, Additional Superintendent of Police Somalin Shubhadrshini, Haryana Government’s Joint Director Dr. Poonam Raman, Project Officer of the Women and Child Development Department Dr. Callesh Rana, Domestic Violence Counselor Pooja, Consultant from the Program Management Unit Sushma, District Social Welfare Officer Bhupen Bhattacharya, along with representatives from Panchayat and Rural Development, Health, religious leaders, and district-level partners associated with the eradication of child marriage. Officials of the Kamrup district administration presented a detailed overview of the steps taken to prevent child marriage, innovative strategies, inter-departmental coordination, and community-based interventions. Dr. Poonam Raman and her team appreciated the proactive efforts and collaborative approach of Kamrup district, stating that such initiatives can serve as a model for other states as well. She also offered some creative suggestions to make the prevention of child marriage even more effective.
