Dr. Sant Ram Deswal Honoured with Padma Shri Award 2025
New Delhi : Dr. Sant Ram Deswal was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award 2025 for his outstanding contribution in the field of Literature and Education. The grand Investiture Ceremony was held at the Ganatantra Mandap of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, presented the award to Dr. Deswal. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and other central ministers, whose presence added splendour to the occasion. All the dignitaries extended their heartfelt congratulations to the awardees.
The ceremony was also attended by several senior officials of the Government of India, fellow Padma awardees, and their family members. Dr. Sant Ram Deswal is a renowned literary figure in Hindi literature as well as Haryanvi folk literature and culture. He was honoured with the Padma Shri for his distinguished contributions in education, Hindi literature, Haryanvi folk culture, folk literature, preservation and promotion of the Haryanvi language, journalism, and social service.
Dr. Deswal has authored over two dozen books across various genres including literary essays, poetry, memoirs, travelogues, biographies, and short stories. After his retirement, he has been residing in Sonipat, where he continues to serve as a full-time writer, journalist, and social worker, tirelessly engaged in literary creation and public service for over five decades. He dedicated his award to all the people of Haryana.
In recognition of his exceptional literary contributions, the Haryana Sahitya Akademi has honoured him with numerous accolades, including the Mahakavi Surdas Lifetime Literary Achievement Award (2018), Jankavi Mehr Singh Samman (2014), and Best Book Awards for Lok Alok (2005) and Ankahe Dard (2009). Additionally, he has received many other honours such as Haryana’s Best Journalism Award, Babu Balmukund Gupta Literary Award, Lok Shiromani Award, Kavya Kalash Samman, Rashtra Kinkar Samman, Hadi-e-Haryana Samman, Sonipat Ratna Samman, Best Teacher Award, among others. His deep commitment to literature and culture has been evident since his early years and throughout his life, he has actively participated in literary and cultural activities, earning him hundreds of awards.
Dr. Sant Ram Deswal expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India in general and to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Hon’ble Minister of Power and Urban Development Shri Manohar Lal, Chief Minister of Haryana Shri Nayab Singh Saini, and all members of the selection committee in particular, for this honour.
