New Delhi : Over 200 people gathered at the Community Hall located at Block-11 Kalyanpuri, New Delhi to witness the launch of the Workers’ Platform by the Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development (DTNBWED) as part of the International Workers’ Day observation. Many stakeholders including, Mr. Manoj, Advocate, District Legal Services Authority, NALSA, Mr. Sushil Sachdeva, Employee State Insurance Corporation, (Central), Ms.Shahnaz Pandit Deendayal Updadhyaya National Institute for persons with disabilities, Employee State Insurance Corporation, Mr. Brij Mohan Singh, Employee Provident Fund Organisation, Mr. Ankit, India Post Payment Bank,Community Organisations like Satark Yuva Sanghatan, Shreshta Mahila Samiti and other informal workers gathered for this event.

In the recent years, the Government of India, has been proactively engaged in improving the lives of the informal workers, one such announcement is the decision to provide monthly financial assistance for children of the construction workers to motivate them to continue their education. Efforts are being made by the various departments to reach out to the workers and facilitate them to avail the benefits.
Similarly, the Antodaya Shramik Shurkasha scheme which is exclusively for informal workers that provides comprehensive accidental and death coverage up to 10 lacs for a premium of less than Rs.500 per year. Such schemes will provide the much-needed support for informal workers and their families.
Speaking about the efforts taken by DTNBWED, Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Regional Director said “The purpose of the Board is to provide the necessary awareness and facilitate schemes for workers by reaching out to them. We have reached ragpickers, sanitary workers, domestic workers, construction workers, gig workers, drivers, daily wage labourers, street vendors through 312 camps and facilitated 31906 schemes including e-schram, ABHA card, PAN card, labour card, PM Vishwakarma, disability pension scheme etc from June 2024 to March 2025. The workers platform represented by different informal workers is a crucial step that will not only enhance the delivery of services to the needy but also represent the voices of the different informal workers in New Delhi by engaging with the different departments.”
Ms. Geetha, member of the Workers Platform said “I come from the Dhobi community, I personally did not know about any of the schemes, until one day when I heard about this camp, It was surprising that all these schemes were provided free of cost. I told my friends about the camp and made them avail the benefits too, I wanted to help other women like me in Delhi hence I learnt more about the different schemes and today I actively engage in mobilizing the community to avail these schemes through the camps.
The Workers’ Platform consists of over 40 workers representing different areas of informal work who will now act as a bridge between the informal workers and the various Government departments. The members of the platform have been capacitated on the different worker- related schemes and they engage themselves from identifying the schemes that are required, the venue for setting up such camps.
