DU and ICCR Celebrate International Yoga Day 2026 with International Students in Delhi
Taresh Sachdeva – New Delhi : An International Yoga Day celebration was organized jointly by University of Delhi (DU) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) at DU on Thursday. On this occasion, the DU Vice-Chancellor and other guests performed yoga collectively with international students. The event was held at the Convention Hall located in DU’s Vice-Regal Lodge. At this International Yoga Day event – organized around the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, Smt. K. Nandini Singla, Director General of ICCR was present as the chief guest while the program was presided over by DU VC Prof. Yogesh Singh.
On this occasion Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh stated in his address that ‘Yoga’ is one of the India’s greatest gifts to humanity. We have gifted many things, but if we have to list out five best things which India have gifted to the world humanity, One is Yoga, second is Ayurveda, third is the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) and so one. Whenever we talk about Yog and think about Yog, it is more than a form of physical Exercise; it represents harmony between the body, mind, intellect, and soul. The Vice-Chancellor remarked that happy and healthy both are two important aspects in our life; if someone is able to do it, everything else falls into place. He emphasized that Yoga is the only effective solution and pathway to achieve this.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. K. Nandini Singla Director General, ICCR noted that DU and ICCR were celebrating Yoga Day jointly for the first time. She mentioned that there are 500 ICCR scholars at DU; thus, through these students, DU is helping to take Yoga to numerous countries across the globe. She observed that while we all desire jobs, cars, and recognition, none of these things can keep us happy unless we are happy from inside. If you cannot control your emotions and thoughts, you cannot be in-charge of your life. Yoga keeps you happy from inside.
Referring to a tweet posted on Instagram two months ago by the world-renowned billionaire Elon Musk, Mrs. Singla noted his statement: “If you are not happy and healthy, being a billionaire means nothing.” Mrs. Singla expressed her gratitude to the University of Delhi for organizing the event.
