Widespread outrage continues to grow across Assam following the mysterious death of beloved singer and music icon Zubeen Garg. Persistent public protests and social media campaigns have now triggered major political reactions, with opposition parties strongly criticizing the BJP-led state government for its alleged reluctance to pursue a fair and transparent investigation. Opposition leaders, including those from the Congress and Raijor Dal, have accused the government of downplaying the seriousness of the case and deliberately weakening the probe for political reasons. “The government’s delay in ensuring justice has shaken people’s faith,” several opposition representatives said, adding that Zubeen Garg represented the cultural soul of Assam and the emotions of its people. “Every Assamese citizen deserves a fair and transparent inquiry into his death.” Artists, playwrights, and cultural figures have also joined the movement, expressing disappointment with the government’s silence. Many have stated that a truly art-loving government should not fear the truth. “Zubeen Garg lives in the heart of Assam, and it is the government’s moral duty to deliver justice,” said one noted theatre artist. Across the state, fans of the late singer continue candlelight marches, dharnas, and public demonstrations under the banner of #JusticeForZubeenGarg, which remains a leading trend on social media. Journalists, writers, and musicians have also called for an independent, non-political investigative panel or a CBI inquiry into the case. Meanwhile, the state government has yet to issue a clear statement or release concrete findings, further fueling public dissatisfaction. “Assam has lost its son, and the movement will not stop until justice is served,” said a protestor in Guwahati. From towns to villages, a single voice echoes across Assam — the call for justice for Zubeen Garg. Opposition parties and cultural organisations have urged the government to rise above politics and urgently make investigation results public, giving Assam’s legendary artist the justice he deserves.
