The horrific mob lynching of Hari Om Valmiki, a 40-year-old Dalit youth in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, has shocked the entire nation. This brutal act is not only a blot on humanity but also a grave violation of the spirit of democracy and social justice.

Expressing deep anguish over the incident, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Shri Devender Yadav led a delegation of lawyers to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to formally lodge a Complaint/ Petition regarding the gruesome killing. He was accompanied by Advocate Sunil Kumar, Chairman of the Legal and Human Rights Department, along with a large number of advocates from the department.

Addressing the matter, DPCC President Devender Yadav expressed serious concern that even after 75 years of India’s Independence, incidents of atrocities against Dalits and marginalized communities continue unabated. In states like Uttar Pradesh, instead of taking strict action against the culprits, the authorities appear to protect them, which is extremely unfortunate and contrary to the fundamental spirit of democratic India.Deep Outrage Over Dalit Youth Hari Om Valmiki’s Lynching: Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav Files Petition Before National Human Rights Commission hummernews.in

In this context, various social and human rights organizations have strongly condemned the incident and urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to send a high-level fact-finding team to conduct an on-the-spot inquiry into the Raebareli incident and bring the truth to light. They also appealed to the Commission to frame strict guidelines and ensure deterrent punishments for such crimes to prevent their recurrence in the future.

This tragic incident is not limited to Raebareli alone but reflects a disturbing pattern of social injustice and atrocities being committed across the country. India can only truly become a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) when every section of society enjoys equal safety, dignity, and justice.

Providing further details, Advocate Sunil Kumar, Chairman of the Legal and Human Rights Department, and Advocate Harish Gola, General Secretary, informed that in a very cordial and constructive meeting, Delhi Congress President Shri Devender Yadav held a point-wise discussion on the matter with the Hon’ble Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Dr. Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi (Former Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court). The entire interaction took place in a warm and positive atmosphere.
