Abbott and Max Hospital Launch India’s First Dual-Chamber Leadless Pacemaker
In a big step for heart care in India, Abbott and Max Hospital, Saket, have launched the country’s first Dual-Chamber Leadless Aveir Pacemaker. The device has been successfully implanted in a patient, marking a major medical achievement.
The new pacemaker, made by Abbott, is the first in the world that can control the heartbeat in both the upper and lower chambers of the heart without using wires or surgical pockets. This makes the treatment safer and more comfortable for patients. It also reduces the chances of infection and other problems that can happen with traditional pacemakers.
The Dual-Chamber Leadless Aveir Pacemaker is smaller, smarter, and less invasive than older pacemakers. It gives patients more freedom and improves their quality of life.
The launch was announced at a press conference at Max Hospital, Saket, on October 6, 2025. The event was attended by senior doctors, health experts, and members of the media.
Dr. Balbir Singh, Chairman of Pan Max Super Speciality Hospital, called the new device a “wonder of modern science.” He said,“This is a proud moment for Indian cardiology and Max Hospital. The new pacemaker is designed to make life easier and safer for patients. It removes many of the problems linked to traditional devices and shows the future of heart care.”
Dr. Cyrus Hadadi, Director at MedStar Hospital, Washington D.C., said the innovation will improve patients’ lives everywhere.
“This device shows what modern medicine can do when technology and patient care come together,” he said.
Abbott has been a global leader in healthcare technology. With this new pacemaker, the company continues its mission to bring world-class, life-saving innovations to India.
This launch marks an important moment for the country’s healthcare system and brings new hope to patients with heart rhythm problems.
