With the aim of spreading awareness among citizens about dengue—a serious mosquito-borne disease—and implementing practical prevention measures at the ground level, a special program was organized on the occasion of ‘Dengue Day’ in Ward No. 159, Chhattarpur, under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. The event was structured by the Health Department and witnessed remarkable participation from municipal officials, public representatives, RWA members, and local residents.

This public welfare campaign was led by the Anti-Malaria Officer of the South Zone, Mr. Kamlesh Mathur. Under his supervision and guidance, activities such as fogging, anti-larval spraying, waterlogging inspections, and educational interactions with citizens were carried out throughout the area.

Under the direction of Assistant Malaria Inspector (AMI) Mr. Chiranji Lal, the health department team conducted door-to-door visits to identify larvae, inspect water tanks, and inform residents about preventive measures against the disease.

Active Participation of Public Representatives

The presence of the local Councillor, Mrs. Pinky Naresh Tyagi, was particularly notable in the campaign. She visited the program site, reviewed the entire operation, and motivated the departmental staff with her encouragement.
She stated:

> “The fight against dengue is not just a government responsibility, but also a social one. If citizens remain aware and the health department remains supportive, this challenge can be overcome with ease.”

Involvement of RWAs and Community

The campaign saw active participation from RWA members, neighborhood representatives, social workers, and local citizens. The distribution of pamphlets, cleanliness drives, advice on covering water tanks, and promotion of the “Dry Day Once a Week” initiative made this effort resemble a mass movement.

Promptness of Municipal Staff

Local residents praised the municipal staff for their swift, disciplined, and committed efforts. They remarked that the manner in which the sanitation and health departments operated was a shining example of effective governance. Particularly under the leadership of Mr. Kamlesh Mathur and Mr. Chiranji Lal, the departmental team worked tirelessly to raise awareness and prevent the spread of infection.

The observance of ‘Dengue Day’ in Ward 159, Chhattarpur, was not just a symbolic event—it emerged as a vibrant example of civic awareness, administrative alertness, and public participation.
This program demonstrates that when the administration, public representatives, and society move forward in unison, meaningful and positive changes in public health are certainly achievable
