Passion and dedication can help achieve any goal- Sudesh Sangwan

New Delhi :
At the age of 69, when most people think about retirement, Sudesh
Sangwan is writing new chapters. A resident of Delhi, Sudesh has become India’s
oldest female international kettlebell athlete. She earned silver and bronze medals
at the international kettlebell marathon championship held in Spain, not only
making India proud but also proving that with passion and determination, age is no
barrier. Moreover, Sudesh Sangwan’s son, who is also a coach, has made country
proud by winning gold and silver medals at the same event. Sudesh Sangwan, a
native of Outer Delhi, is eager to achieve something remarkable in life and to
contribute to the nation’s pride.
From May 2 to May 4, 2025, she participated in the international kettlebell
marathon championship in Spain along with her coach son Vinay Sangwan, as well
as seven other Indian athletes. About 250 players from 18 countries competed in
this event. In the championship, Sudesh Sangwan won silver and bronze medals,
while player Vinay Sangwan secured gold. Divyanshi Shekhawat, Premchand, and
Manish Kumar Ruhail also brought fame to India by winning silver and bronze
medals.
Sudesh Sangwan, along with seven other talented athletes – Vina Malik, Vinay
Sangwan, Manish Kumar Ruhail, Danish Naushad, Premchand Rajput, Divyanshi
Shekhawat, and Neerav Koli – represented India at the international kettlebell
championship. The International Kettlebell Federation (India) representative Arnav
Sarkar was also present with the players.
After the championship, all the Delhi players met India’s ambassador to Spain,
Dinesh Kumar Patnayak. Dinesh Patnayak congratulated all the winners.
Sudesh Sangwan started kettlebell training in November 2024 under the guidance
of her son and coach Vinay Sangwan, who are both six-time world champions.
Motivated by her dedicated son, this sport soon turned into a personal passion.
Within a few months, Sudesh became a national sensation, falling in love with this
demanding sport and setting new standards. In February 2025, she participated in
the Indian Kettlebell Sports Championship held in Delhi. Competing fiercely in the
snatch and half snatch disciplines at the half marathon event, she won a silver and
a gold medal respectively. She was honoured by Paralympian Padma Shri Dr Deepa Malik , who has
received numerous awards for India.
In March, during another kettlebell competition held in Delhi, her performance was
not limited to just winning medals. She set a record by doing 416 consecutive
snatches with an 8 kg kettlebell in 30 minutes – an achievement no Indian woman
of her age has ever accomplished.
It is important to note that Sudesh Sangwan’s journey is much more than just
medals and records; it is an inspiring reminder that ambition and passion have no
expiry date. Sudesh stands as an inspiration for athletes across all generations,
especially women often told that their best years are behind them. With patience,
humility, and her kettlebell in hand, Sudesh Sangwan is not just pursuing history,
she is making it.
