Historic Press Conference Held by AALAV at Press Club of India Demands Immediate Return & Rehabilitation of Displaced Kashmiri Pandits

More than three and a half decades have passed since the catastrophic displacement of Kashmiri Pandits began in 1989-90. Over 4,00,000 souls were driven out of the only home they ever knew. They lost not only their homes and land, but their temples, their schools, their neighborhoods, their culture, their identity. And yet, India watched.
This isn’t just a humanitarian crisis-it is a scar on the face of our Constitution. It is blood on the hands of the system that pledged justice, equality, and security to every Indian citizen, but failed a peaceful community when they needed their country the most.

the AALAV delegation, in collaboration with civil society and political leaders, raised their voice in the national capital, reminding the country that the exile of Kashmiri Pandits is not a closed chapter-it is an open wound.

A National Shame Demands National Justice
“We are not beggars,” stated Dr. Sandeep Mawa, “We are rightful sons and daughters of the soil. We are the original inhabitants of the Valley. And we demand our return not as refugees, but as rightful citizens of India.”
The 17-point Charter of Demands submitted by AALAV is not a plea-it is a constitutional and moral imperative. Among the key demands are:
lStrengthening of security in the Valley to ensure safety and dignity.
l3BHK housing colonies in each district for permanent rehabilitation.
lOne government job per displaced family, with 20,000 jobs earmarked.
l10% reservation in educational institutions.
lMinority status and creation of a dedicated Minority Welfare Board.
lNullification of all property sales post-1989, recognizing them as acts of coercion.
lPermanent political representation in Parliament and the Assembly.
lInclusion of the Kashmiri Pandit genocide in the NCERT/CBSE curriculum.
lCreation of a Truth and Justice Commission to officially investigate the genocide and ethnic cleansing.
A Union Budget of 3 lakh crore to support Jammu, which has borne the economic and Infrastructural burden of this crisis for 36 years.
An Identity Stolen, A Culture Destroyed
The Kashmiri Pandit exodus is not just a displacement of people-it is the dismantling of a 5,000-year-old civilization. Temples lie in ruins. Cultural landmarks have been defaced. Generations born in exile do not know what “home” feels like. And for too long, the nation has been silent
The members of AALAV called upon every Indian to rise above political divides and realize that the pain of Kashmiri Pandits is not a political issue-it is a national issue.
“We are not statistics,” said Satish Mahaldar, AALAV Media Incharge. “We are not numbers in refugee camps. We are the bearers of India’s most ancient knowledge, spirituality, and culture. And we demand to go home-not as visitors, but as sons of the soil.
AALAV’s press conference is more than a media event-it is a declaration of intent. The community is no longer willing to wait. The return of Kashmiri Pandits is not a footnote in Indian history. It is a moral and constitutional crisis that demands urgent and irreversible action.
